It’s official. Kids LOVE weapons. If they were suddenly endowed with even the slightest ability to create a CAD model, their first inclination is to create a weapon. Such was the case at our recent Family 3D Printing Workshop here in Hong Kong just this past weekend.I taught the students who joined our workshops how to create one of the objects from our website’s Starter Kit. After they had learned some of the straightforward tools like the Polygon and Extrude, I gave them about 30 minutes to create anything they wanted before the 3D printing began. Four out of four kids ended up drafting a ray gun, a sword, or a light saber. The parents were also supportive, with one saying I should provide more weapon models in future workshops. Our Starter Kit does feature How To Videos on how to create a ballistic missile to represent the defense industry, which is also being affected by 3D printing. Looks like we’ll be working on quite a few more from that industry!
